The Texas Accred­it­ed Foresters Coun­cil serves as a des­ig­na­tion of the high­est cal­iber nat­ur­al resource pro­fes­sion­al — assur­ing for­est landown­ers that their accred­it­ed forester has met rig­or­ous edu­ca­tion, expe­ri­ence, and ethics stan­dards. The accred­it­ed forester upholds a respon­si­bil­i­ty to man­age nat­ur­al resources sus­tain­ably for cur­rent and future gen­er­a­tions of Tex­ans, adheres to sci­en­tif­i­cal­ly proven prac­tices, and main­tains pro­fes­sion­al devel­op­ment edu­ca­tion and training.

To become an accred­it­ed forester, you must:

  • have a bach­e­lor of sci­ence degree or high­er from an SAF accred­it­ed col­lege or uni­ver­si­ty, or approved by the Texas Accred­it­ed Foresters Board;
  • have a min­i­mum of five years of pro­fes­sion­al forestry experience;
  • main­tain good stand­ing in accor­dance with the Texas Accred­it­ed Foresters Coun­cil Code of Ethics;
  • apply Best Man­age­ment Prac­tices; and,
  • meet con­tin­u­ing edu­ca­tion requirements.
